AG-UI (Agent-User Interaction Protocol) is an open, event-based protocol that enables real-time, two-way communication between AI agents and user interfaces.

Why do AI agents need AG-UI?

AI agents reason and act dynamically. AG-UI lets interfaces stay in sync with that reasoning by streaming updates, tool usage, and state changes in real time.

How is AG-UI different from traditional UI architectures?

Traditional UIs follow fixed workflows. AG-UI enables adaptive interfaces that evolve based on user intent and agent decisions as they happen.

AG-UI streams structured events from the agent to the UI, such as messages, tool calls, and state updates, while allowing users to respond mid-flow.

What problems does AG-UI solve?

It removes the gap between agent reasoning and UI rendering, enabling progressive output, shared state, and visible agent actions.

Is AG-UI tied to a specific model or framework?

No. AG-UI is model-agnostic and works with OpenAI, Anthropic, LangGraph, and custom agent backends over standard HTTP.

How is AG-UI related to Generative UI?

Generative UI decides what to render. AG-UI defines how agents communicate those decisions to interfaces in real time.

What kinds of products benefit most from AG-UI?

AI copilots, analytics agents, autonomous workflows, and collaborative tools benefit from AG-UI when users need visibility and control during execution.
